Food Blog: Funan & Liang Court

After walking rounds and rounds (acutally two levels only), we finally sat down and had a small discussion on what to eliminate as we had too much information on hands. HY wanted to get a laptop for school and entertainment. I think by now, she has more or less settled on Hewlett Packard Pavilion dv6800, but a 14.1" I think the laptops are very pretty! Feel like making one of them mine. hahah

Anyway, we settled down in one of those cafes in the midst of the busty mall, sipping coffees and eating toast while we continued to discuss on what's the more appropriate and a better buy. heh

Of the kaya and butter

Then, we made our ways back to Cityhall to meet our respective friends. After a month, she's still celebrating her birthday while I met up with Cindy to have our dinner. Parted, both of us strolled to Liang Court's Tampopo since it's already dusk. No harm walking as we could save on transport though there will be quite a damage done to my overactive sweat glands. lol

I had an order of the Kyushu Ramen even though I was craving for the Black Pig Tonkatsu Cutlet. Din have it because I was having a bad cough but the friend was very nice to offer me. hahah

Kyushu Ramen - Very authentic. Even before I started eating, the fragrance from within the bowl was overwhelming. On having the soup, it was more of seasme yet it felt light at the same time. It's a good broth which you can get addicted on drinking it. Noodles wise, al dentle. The hindsight was that the meat was too tough. Baikohken Ramen's, also known as Hokkaido San'scharsiews are still the best. They are godlike!

They have this interesting red pool of roe on the surface. It tasted kinda sour but appetising. That was a good order! Oiishi~

The friend, on the other hand had Tonkatsu Ramen. Dunno why it was so spicy this time round that neither of us could take it. Finished it though with some help from the ice water and filtering off the spicy broth. Cutlet was very well done. Crispy and thin which makes it easier to bite and it's not dry.

While waiting for my desserts to be served, I spied on the chefs. hahah. Not that I can learn anything, I just find them very meticulous in their cookings and attentive to customers' needs.

Here comes our long awaited desserts. We came here not only for ramens but also for their signature Chiffon cakes too. Pledged it to come again to try since the last visit and it was delightful. heh

Macha Chiffon - This was really good. The cake was soft, fluffy and flavoursome. It was macha diffusion throughout the whole cake. Strawberries added was a complement to the cake but it tasted a tad sourish for the friend. Cream on the other hand was a no no to me. I'm not a fantic fan for it as I think it tastes funny and fattening, so I had a hard time eating the cake, scraping the cream aside now and then. But it was joyful eating the machaaaaa cake!

Cheese Chiffon - Disappointed with it. The chiffon, though light, was practically tasteless and I certainly didnt appreciate sporadic gratings of cheese which did nothing more than allow the chiffon to live up to its name. Hence, it's just like an ordinary sponge cake.

Though the cakes were a lil' pricey, $5.80 for a slice. I think it's worth it for the enjoyment throughout I had =P

- End

I had an interesting conversation (I'll share it if I've a chance) while waiting for our bus. It was a long 40 minutes wait. Talkin bout efficiency! tssssssk

Will time stop for me?

Food Blog: Provence at Holland Village

I cant help but rave above this quaint French inspired Japanese bakery set in the heart of Holland Village with outdoor and indoor seatings. Place is rather small, so it can get quite claustrophobic and it's rather tight with displays and limited seating and people walking in and out taking away the breads.

Provence has satisfied breakfasts, lunches, brunches, teas, dinners, quick take-away snacks, suppers... as long as the bread craving hits! Be greeted with the smell of freshly baked bread and sometimes the sight of loaves and loaves at every corner when in the cooling process.

What sets this apart from most other bakeries is that their breads are Japanese style, which is 'lighter' and easier on the palate. I am sure the best ingredients are used as much as they can afford to and this results in bread that is fluffier than most!

I visited before lunch, beat the lunch crowds and could get more varieties, especially the wassants. You gotta go before noon everyday because I saw how it was actually snatched out then. It comes in packs of ten, next to the counter(Show you guys later)

I had a hearty breakfast there too! It was superb value-added, plus it's very healthy! I ordered one breakfast sets which consisted of a Bacon and Egg sandwich with oodles of healthy greens complimented by a light salad and a drink of your choice. Priced at $5, I thought it was pretty reasonable given the size of its portion and appeal - The toasted sandwiches look divine. Taste wise, it was good and I love it! heh

While the friend had a set of Ham Toast at $4, which is without the salad.

After eating, we went for a bread shopping! Too many varieties to choose from was a headache for me as there were many different types of Japanese style breads - An pan, cream pan, melon pan, scones, curry doughnuts etc

The signature is the Wassants which everyone goes Provence for! These are mini soft and fluffy buns, available in chocolate or cream flavour and they are mostly sold out by end of lunchtime on weekdays. But you can call to reserve and collect later in the day! However, I'm not really impressed by it but it can be quite addictive!

Wassants

Milk Pan - This is a not so sweet and milk castard filling bread. It's savoury inside, fluffy outside. Soft and nice to bite

I've got another two which I've forgotten the name. Nevertheless, those were good too, because of the bread! It's heavenly!

Crusty edges

Cream custard

heh. Just a short review of their creations, the rest should be equally good! Seriously, I like the bread, even if it's plain with nothing! sheeeesh.
